If your internet suddenly feels slower than usual, don’t panic — this is likely data throttling, and it’s completely normal for Unlimited eSIMs.
Why this happens
Our Unlimited eSIMs give you high-speed data each day. Once you use around 1.5GB of high-speed data within a single day, your connection may slow down for the rest of that day.
This is called throttling.
When throttled, your speed is reduced to around 1 Mbps.
What you can still do at throttled speeds
Even at a reduced speed, your eSIM is still usable for everyday essentials, including:
- Navigation and maps
- Messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger
- Social media browsing
- Sending emails or photos
This follows an industry-standard practice known as a Fair Usage Policy.
Mobile networks apply this to help ensure fair access for everyone and to prevent a small number of users from using excessive bandwidth.
Tips to avoid throttling
Want to stay on high-speed data longer? These simple tips can help reduce the chances of throttling during the day.
Keep an eye on your phone’s built-in data usage tracker
Most phones, including iPhones and Samsung devices, show data usage in Mobile Data settings.
Save big downloads or streaming for Wi-Fi
App updates, large downloads, and video streaming are best done when you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
