Fix Common Data Roaming & Mobile Data Switching Issues

If your Simify eSIM isn’t getting data, it’s usually because of one of these settings:

  • Data Roaming is turned off
  • Your phone is using the wrong SIM for mobile data

Once those are corrected, most connection issues resolve immediately.

Using an iPhone

These settings help make sure your iPhone is using your Simify eSIM for data, not your home SIM.


Turn on Data Roaming for your Simify eSIM
Data Roaming must be enabled for your Simify eSIM to connect, even in covered countries.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Mobile Service (or Cellular)
  3. Select your Simify eSIM
  4. Switch Data Roaming On

Keep Data Roaming off on your home SIM. This helps prevent roaming charges from your regular mobile provider.

Turn off Mobile Data Switching
When this is enabled, your iPhone may switch back to your home SIM for data.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Mobile Service (or Cellular)
  3. Tap Mobile Data
  4. Tap Mobile Data Switching
  5. Turn Mobile Data Switching Off

Set Simify as the active data line
This makes sure your iPhone knows which SIM to use for mobile data.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Mobile Service (or Cellular)
  3. Tap Mobile Data
  4. Select your Simify eSIM

Refresh the connection

  1. Turn Airplane Mode On

    Wait 10 to 20 seconds

  2. Turn Airplane Mode Off again

Using a Samsung

These settings help make sure your Samsung phone is using your Simify eSIM for mobile data.

Turn on Data Roaming for your Simify eSIM
Data Roaming is required for the eSIM to connect.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Connections
  3. Tap Mobile networks
  4. Turn Data Roaming On

    If prompted, allow roaming for all networks

Keep Data Roaming off on your home SIM
This helps avoid roaming charges from your personal provider.

  1. Select your home SIM
  2. Make sure Data Roaming is turned Off

Select Simify as the preferred SIM for mobile data
This helps prevent your phone from using the wrong SIM for data.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Connections
  3. Tap SIM manager
  4. Under Preferred SIMs, select your Simify eSIM for mobile data

Refresh the connection

  1. Turn Airplane Mode On

    Wait 10 to 20 seconds

  2. Turn Airplane Mode Off again

Using a Google Pixel phone

Pixel phones use a slightly different menu path, but the same checks apply.


Turn on Data Roaming for your Simify eSIM
Data Roaming must be enabled for your Simify eSIM to connect.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Network & internet
  3. Tap SIMs
  4. Select your Simify eSIM
  5. Turn Data Roaming On

Keep Data Roaming off on your home SIM
This helps prevent unexpected charges from your main carrier.

  1. Select your home SIM
  2. Make sure Data Roaming is turned Off

Set Simify as the preferred SIM for mobile data
This helps stop your Pixel from switching back to your home SIM.

  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap Network & internet
  3. Tap SIMs
  4. Under Preferred SIM for Mobile Data, select your Simify eSIM

Refresh the connection

  1. Turn Airplane Mode On

    Wait 10 to 20 seconds

  2. Turn Airplane Mode Off again
