Not sure if your phone will work with a Simify eSIM? You’re not alone. The good news is that most modern smartphones are compatible — as long as they support eSIM and are network unlocked.
Before purchasing, there are just two things to confirm:
- Your phone supports eSIM
- Your phone is unlocked
Let’s walk through both.
Does your phone support eSIM?
eSIM compatibility depends on your exact phone model, not just the brand. Even within the same series, some models support eSIM while others don’t.
There are two easy ways to check.
Check using your keypad
- Open your phone’s dialer and dial *#06#.
- If a screen pops up showing details like IMEI, IMEI2, and EID, that’s a good sign.
- If you can see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM. If there’s no EID, the device likely doesn’t have eSIM capability.
Check your phone settings
On iPhone
- Go to phone Settings
- Tap Mobile Service (or Cellular)
- If you see Add eSIM, your iPhone supports eSIM
On Android
- Go to phone Settings
- Tap Connections
- Tap SIM manager
- If you see Add eSIM, your device supports eSIM
On Google Pixel
- Go to phone Settings
- Tap Network & internet
- Tap SIMs
- If you see Set up an eSIM, your device supports eSIM
If you don’t see any eSIM options in your settings, your device may not support eSIM. You can find the full list of supported devices here.
Don’t see your device on the list? We’re more than happy to process a refund for your unused eSIM if your device isn’t compatible.
Is your phone unlocked?
If your phone is unlocked, it can connect to mobile networks from different carriers. If it’s locked, it’s restricted to one carrier and may not work with a travel eSIM.
If you bought your phone directly from a mobile carrier like Telstra, Optus, or AT&T, it may be locked, especially if:
- It’s on a contract or payment plan
- The device isn’t fully paid off yet
- The carrier applies a lock by default in your country
In that case, your Simify eSIM may not be able to connect until the device is unlocked.
If you purchased your phone outright from retailers like Best Buy, JB Hi-Fi, or Harvey Norman, it’s often unlocked, especially if it was sold as “SIM-free” or “unlocked.”
That said, there can still be exceptions depending on the model and how it was sold. If you’re not sure, the simplest option is to contact your carrier and ask if your phone is unlocked.
In many cases, they can unlock it for you, but it may take some time or involve a small fee.
