HOW ESIM INSTALLATION AND ACTIVATION WORK
Installing an eSIM and activating it are often confused, but they’re actually two different steps. Activation is not automatic and does not happen during installation.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Installation adds the eSIM to your phone
- Activation starts your eSIM validity
- Installing your eSIM does not use up your plan
- Your eSIM activates after arrival, not during installation
WHAT DOES “INSTALL” MEAN?
Installing your eSIM simply means adding it to your device.
When you install your eSIM:
- The eSIM is downloaded and saved on your phone
- It becomes visible in your SIM or mobile settings
- No data is used
- Your plan validity does not start
This step is best done before departure, using a stable Wi-Fi connection, so everything is ready when you arrive.

WHAT DOES “ACTIVATE” MEAN?
Activation is when your eSIM actually starts working and your plan validity begins.
Your eSIM activates only when:
- You are already in a supported country
- Your phone is set to use the eSIM for mobile data
- The correct settings are enabled on your device

WHY INSTALLATION AND ACTIVATION ARE SEPARATE
Separating installation and activation allows you to:
